With the current global pandemic, mental health and stress management are now major issues at the forefront being discussed online and in the media. Unfortunately, these are issues that have long been ailing our society, and although it’s already getting a lot of attention nowadays, many still don't give it the focus it deserves.

Why People Neglect Self Care

Even before the global pandemic, many business people were already pulling way more than a 40-hour work week. Now, in the new normal, where a lot of people are currently working from home, it’s even more difficult to shut off from work. The constant attention demanded by mobile phones and laptops are often obstacles in allowing people to make time for self care. Aside from not having time, another reason for putting off self care is that people find that working out in gyms or going to studio classes can be expensive. Others are also still afraid to venture out of their homes due to fear of getting exposed to Covid.

Consider Practicing Yoga as One Option for Self Care

One good way of practicing self care is yoga. Aside from the physical benefits, yoga is also a great way to manage stress and anxiety. It allows one to pause, be in the moment, breathe, and clear one’s head. Yoga can be done practically anywhere: at home, in a garden, at the park, in an office--anywhere where there’s floor space to lay down a yoga mat. And that’s all you would need. There are yoga mats that can be purchased inexpensively, and they're widely available in physical and online stores. There’s also no need to pay for expensive yoga classes in a studio. Many yoga studios and freelance yoga teachers are now offering more affordable online yoga classes and even free content on their youtube channels. These can easily be done from the comfort and safety of your own home. Practicing just 10 to 20 minutes of yoga everyday can do wonders for one’s physical and mental health.

How to Make Time for Yoga and Self Care

Everyone, and most especially busy business people, should realize that self care allows one to be more productive and successful in the long run. It’s highly important to make time for self care. One good way is to plot out a daily schedule and include time for self care. If there are really just too many tasks to get done in any given day, business people should consider hiring a virtual assistant to off-load non-urgent tasks. This will free up a lot of time in their schedule. A virtual assistant can also handle calendar management and help protect one’s precious me time.
